Podcasting started way back in 2004. But only a quarter of the population (in the US) listen to podcasts regularly. While there are many reasons for this -- technology hurdles, competing media formats -- I think a lot of the responsibility on spreading podcasts to more people lies with us, the working podcasters.
Podcast Pontifications has a single, easy-to-understand mission: make podcasting better. Better for listeners, yes. But also better for working podcasters like you and me. Because we're listeners too.
My show isn't a "how to" show. There are plenty of podcasts about podcasting -- PAPs -- that provide tactical coverage for all things podcasting, for people just starting out to long-term veterans. In fact, I listen to most of them. While I'm sure there are plenty more coming, I didn't want to make yet-another show about podcasting.
I' making a show that advances podcasting. A show that examines the hard and often existential questions of podcasting head on. A show that is every bit as critical pf podcasting's past as it is celebratory. A show that challenges conventional wisdom. A show where "that's the way we've always done things" is anathema.
Most of all, I'm making a show that looks to the future of podcasting, embracing all the coming upheavals and disruption as we continue to gain marketshare and explore the boundaries of what's fun, interesting, and ultimately successful in podcasting. Join me?
